The best helmet visors for 2026

A visor is the part of a helmet that wears out first and the part most often bought wrongly. The reason is simple and worth stating before any specification: a visor fits the models its maker lists, and no others. The mechanism differs between brands, between ranges within a brand, and sometimes between two generations of the same model name. A photograph of a curved piece of plastic tells you nothing, and the compatibility list tells you everything — so a listing without one is a listing to leave alone. Once compatibility is settled, three properties decide which visor to take. Tint, which is the most consequential and the most regulated: clear, light smoke, dark smoke, mirrored, photochromic. A dark visor is not legal for night use in many places and makers publish the light transmission figure that the local rule refers to; this site reports that figure and the rule the listing cites, and leaves the rule itself to the country you are in. Pin preparation, meaning whether the visor carries the pins for an anti-fog insert — a visor sold "pinlock-prepared" accepts one, a visor without pins does not and cannot be made to. And coatings: an anti-scratch coating is nearly universal, an anti-fog coating on the visor itself is not the same thing as an insert and works far less well. A fourth line is worth reading where it is published: the optical class, which is the measurement of how little the visor distorts.
