That the membrane is on a drop-liner rather than laminated to the shell. The difference is not subtle in use: a drop-liner has to be fitted before the rain — it is inside the jacket — and the outer fabric soaks and stays heavy and cold. A laminate stops water at the surface and needs no decision at the first drops.
Both constructions are legitimate and the price difference between them is real. What matters is knowing which you have, and the word “removable” is what tells you.
