BEAST RAGE

Summer and winter, one shelf apart

What a glove range has to solve

Two completely different problems.

A summer glove is judged on airflow and on how little it interferes with the controls. A winter glove is judged on warmth, on windproofing, and on whether you can still feel a brake lever through it.

A brand offering both is offering the pair of answers, which matters because nobody rides a year in one glove.

What to look for on either

The standard. Motorcyclists’ gloves are classified by EN 13594, which publishes a level from a set of measured properties. It is printed on the glove.

And the cuff. A short cuff under a jacket sleeve lets cold air up the wrist; a long one over it lets rain run down into the palm. Which way round a glove is cut is not a detail — it decides whether the jacket and the glove work together at all.

Neither is settled by a listing, and both are settled by the product in your hand.
