The difference between a lock and security is whether the machine can still be picked up.
A disc lock stops the wheel turning. The machine cannot be ridden. It can be rolled onto a board and lifted.
A chain through the wheel does the same thing with more weight.
A chain to a fixed object — a post, a rack, a ground anchor — is the one that stops the machine being carried away. That is the whole purpose, and it makes length the property that decides the outcome.
Sold Secure and ART are certifications from outside bodies, published as grades, and insurers publish which grade they accept.
A maker’s own “security level 4” or “8/10” is a house scale. It is genuinely useful for ranking that maker’s own range and it is not an independent assessment.
